Responsibilities

  • Provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Ensure the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room for each operation.
  • Assist the surgeon during the operation within professional and legal standards.
  • Assist with cleaning the operating room and proper routing of equipment and used materials after the operation.
  • Report to the Manager.

Requirements

  • Completion of a surgical technician program.
  • Must be certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or be able to obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Maintain CPR and BLS validation, and attend annual Validation Day.
  • Knowledge of various surgical procedures and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of sterile field.
  • Knowledge and practice of basic care and patient safety concepts.
  • Application of the principles of asepsis in a manner that provides optimal patient care.
  • Knowledge of OR emergency situations.
