Position Summary:

As an experienced Registered Nurse (RN), the Clinical Unit Supervisor at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is responsible for delivering excellent clinical care in the Medical Surgical and Telemetry units. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care. Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, plan, direct, and coordinate individualized patient/family-centered care
  • Demonstrate abilities to meet special needs and considerations based on Age and Population Specific awareness
  • Promote the growth and development of employees
  • Ensure patient advocacy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  1. Attend Super User training for the Care Collaborative System.
  2. Participate in integrated testing for the Care Collaborative System.
  3. Assist in the Care Collaborative System training for new employees.
  4. Assist with unit set-up of equipment, supplies, patient rooms, etc.
  5. Assist with unit orientation of new employees.
  6. Assist with creating useful "How-To" handouts for the Care Collaborative System.
  7. Complete any other duties assigned by the Nurse Manager to ensure the unit is ready for the hospital opening.

Post-Opening Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary liaison to Medical Staff and other personnel
  • Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients in collaboration with Care Management
  • Anticipate staffing needs and proactively respond to them
  • Set measurable goals and objectives for optimum quality and cost-effective care
  • Assign patient beds and determine appropriate assignments of unit personnel on each shift
  • Ensure compliance with Title 22 regulations regarding licensed personnel breaks
  • Deliver direct patient care as needed
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment that complies with regulatory standards
  • Actively resolve complaints and conflicts involving patients, visitors/families, and physicians
  • Assist in interviewing and evaluating applicants
  • Contribute to the counseling process and provide recommendations to the Nurse Manager
  • Review payroll and notify appropriate personnel of risk events
  • Participate in the implementation of quality and performance improvement plans
  • Serve as a resource for RNs on the unit

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (individuals hired without a BSN will be required to complete a degree program within 5 years)

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in Medical/Surgical/Telemetry nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Clinical Unit Supervisor experience
  • Current California Nursing license
  • Certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing preferred
  • Basic EKG Competence

Special Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record preferred
