Summary

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is seeking a skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Clinical Unit Supervisor. In this role, you will be responsible for providing excellent clinical practice and managing patient care in the Medical-Surgical and Telemetry Nursing units. Reporting to the Nurse Manager of Medical Surgical Nursing, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care. As a Clinical Unit Supervisor, your responsibilities include:

  • Organizing, planning, and directing the nursing care for Medical-Surgical and Telemetry patients
  • Providing individualized, patient/family centered care
  • Meeting the needs and considerations of different age groups and populations
  • Promoting employee growth and development
  • Advocating for patients under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Director for Medical Surgical Nursing

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Pre-Opening Responsibilities

  • Participating in Super User training for the Care Collaborative System
  • Assisting with unit set-up and orientation of new employees
  • Creating useful handouts for the Care Collaborative System

Post-Opening Responsibilities

  • Acting as the primary liaison to the Medical Staff and other personnel
  • Facilitating the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients in collaboration with Care Management
  • Anticipating staffing needs and proactively responding to them
  • Setting measurable goals and objectives for optimum patient care
  • Assigning patient beds and unit personnel based on patient condition, physician orders, and available staffing
  • Delivering direct patient care as needed
  • Maintaining a safe and clean environment that complies with regulatory standards
  • Promoting a positive work environment and service excellence
  • Resolving complaints and conflicts involving patients, visitors/families, and physicians
  • Assisting in the interview process for unit positions and contributing to employee performance evaluation
  • Participating in quality and performance improvement activities

Position Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (or completion within 5 years of hire date for individuals without a BSN)

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in Medical/Surgical/Telemetry nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Clinical Unit Supervisor experience
  • Current California Nursing license
  • Certification in Medical/Surgical Nursing preferred
  • Basic EKG competence

Special Skills/Knowledge

  • Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record preferred
