Summary: Albany Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our General Surgery department. As a Transplant Coordinator, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a medical doctor. Responsibilities:
- Deliver professional, direct patient care, including problem evaluation and management
- Serve patients across various age groups, including School Age Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Older Adult
- Conduct preoperative teaching for transplant program patients and their families
- Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate clinical practice according to Nursing Practice Guidelines
- Act as a consult and preceptor in the clinical practice
- Ensure compliance with all United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) regulations
- Assist the attending Transplant surgeons, house staff, and nursing staff with direct patient care
- Perform initial history and physical examinations on transplant patients
- Participate in the evaluation of prospective abdominal organ transplant recipients and living donors
- Monitor the current waitlist patients and facilitate activating recipients for Kidney and Pancreas transplants
- Assist with data collection for research and program improvements
- Perform minor wound care, remove tubes and drains, and sutures from surgical wounds
- Schedule non-invasive laboratory tests and interpret the results
- Educate health care workers and the public regarding organ transplantation
Requirements:
- Successful completion of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program or an Accredited Physician Assistant program
- National certification through an approved agency and registration with New York State
- Licensure in NYS is mandatory
- Related work experience, educational background, work stability, and strong interpersonal/communication skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Work Environment: In this role, you may be exposed to infectious materials/blood-borne pathogens. You may encounter challenging situations with patients and their families.
