Position Summary
The Circulating Staff Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the management of patient care. Reporting to the Clinical Unit Supervisor of Perioperative Nursing, the Circulating Staff Nurse has 12-hour accountability for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high-quality, individualized patient/family-centered care based on the Watson Model of Care for a defined group of patients, including the identification and demonstration of abilities to meet special needs and considerations of Age and Population Specific awareness.
Job Responsibilities
- Use the nursing process as a problem-solving model, utilizing knowledge and experience to anticipate and plan for patient and family needs.
- Conduct targeted nursing assessments to address areas most productive for a given patient population or situation.
- Recognize subtle changes in clinical situations and appropriately alter the plan of care.
- Prioritize and organize patient care, ensuring follow-through with planned care.
- Apply current literature/research findings and critical thinking skills to make sound clinical decisions.
- Demonstrate the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction effort when interacting with patients, families, and co-workers.
- Develop and maintain a therapeutic nurse/patient relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
- Conduct hourly rounding on patients.
- Communicate effectively utilizing the SBAR framework in all hand-off situations.
- Perform documentation of patient care, including assessment, interdisciplinary plan of care, implementation, evaluation, and the Watson Model of Care.
- Anticipate variables affecting patient comfort and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Assist patients/families in maximizing their sense of control and actively participate in their recovery.
- Commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients and families.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary discharge planning for a specific patient population.
- Review all orders on patients and communicate changes in patient condition with physicians and other team members.
- Collaborate professionally for required orders and follow-up with revised care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and document outcomes.
- Utilize the patient classification system according to standards.
- Plan, supervise, instruct, and evaluate ancillary nursing personnel, orientees, and registry staff.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment that complies with regulatory standards.
- Participate in the implementation of the unit-specific Quality and Performance Improvement Plan.
Position Requirements
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree in nursing preferred
- Associate's degree in nursing required
Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience in Surgical Services nursing preferred
- Current California Nursing license
- CNOR certification preferred
Special Skills/Knowledge
- Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
- Basic computer skills
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
