The Role:

As the Assistant Nurse Manager in the Psychiatric Emergency Department, you will be responsible for overseeing patient care and providing leadership to Registered Nurses and staff under your supervision. Your main focus will be on ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients through the department. You will play a pivotal role in assigning patient care activities, ensuring staff are qualified to provide care, supporting team members, and maintaining quality and service excellence. In addition, you will facilitate challenging situations and monitor and maintain staff performance. As a nursing leader, you will exemplify excellent attendance, a positive attitude, and respectful communication. You will also promote and support a healthy work environment and role model HHC leadership behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and leadership expertise in the Psychiatric Emergency Department
  • Oversee patient care activities, ensuring safe and efficient movement of patients
  • Assign patient care responsibilities and support team members
  • Monitor and maintain staff performance
  • Role model excellent attendance, positive attitude, and respectful communication
  • Promote and support a healthy work environment
  • Exemplify HHC leadership behaviors

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health-related field or a qualified candidate in the process of completing the education requirement within six months of employment
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN in a psychiatric behavioral health unit required (three years or more preferred)
  • Six (6) months of experience as Charge Nurse or supervisory experience required (twelve months or more preferred)
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Current Connecticut License as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications
  • ACLS certification and certification in clinical area preferred
